One and a half weeks of testing and still not done! My Para is key to the success of our PE program. While I'm testing one class, she's in charge of leading the activities for the other 3 or 4 classes.
This week students have been playing "Chicken Coop" or "Make It, Take It". They are developing team work, strategic thinking, and moderate to vigorous physical activity. They have to toss a bean bag (another skill practiced: underhand toss) from a polyspot to a hoop. If they make it, they win the polyspot. They retrieve that polyspot, their beanbag, and go back to the cone where the partner is waiting for his/her turn. When there are no more polyspots we call out the "magic" number. If a team has that number on the polyspots, they are responsible for picking up all the polyspots, and more important and exciting for them, they get to scatter them for the next round!
The Pacer test is one of the students' favorite. They look forward to it and on their own, have taken it as a competition, in spite of my reminders that it is a test and they must strive only to do their best...
We also completed curl-ups (I can't hear one more "Up.... down!" and began the Sit & Reach and Shoulder Reach. Next week we'll continue with these and then will have to stop since I'll miss Thursday and Friday to go to the FAHPERDS Convention in Orlando. The following week we'll do the Height and Weight.
The weather is changing! We've had breezy days and low humidity. Our next unit will be Tennis. We have plenty of great quality equipment and I'll be attending a Workshop at the conference. I'm sure I'll come out with new ideas of how to implement it at school.
Til the next one!
