The new school year is up and running! My new Para is excellent! I've been very fortunate to always have excellent Paraprofessionals that work with me ensuring students are safe, supporting discipline, helping out with equipment, and in general being my right hand.
We have begun our year with ball handling skills and basic basketball skills. Next week we will begin evaluations through observations, and the week after that (4th week) we will begin the Pre-Test for the Fitnessgram.
This year I will be using a Palm Pilot in order to save time. In the past I was writing test results for about 700 students x 5 tests in my folder and then transcribing them at home to the computer. Lots and lots of work and time invested on this! I purchased the handheld computer and software and am ready to go! I will just have to input the results on the handheld device and upload them to my computer and, voila!
For 4th and 5th graders, I will print their results and have them establish goals for each fitness test. This should help with them learning to "own" their work and should encourage them to work in order to achieve improvement.
Another new for me. I have printed out the test lists with the benchmarks that I will be evaluating this first quarter. This will save time when evaluating and will remind me constantly of the important skills to focus on.
Til the next entry!
